- Reviewing the Assessment Guide which unpacks and elaborates the task components and requirements
- Interpreting the task rubric or mark sheet in order to understand the emphasis and importance of the various components
- Discuss with your lecturer, verbally via email any questions of clarification
- Check assessment forum on moodle
- INITIATE EARLY and seek feedback as appropriate
- POLISH in the last week
Then unravel the cognitive verbs: "analyse, discuss, evaluate....."
Essay/Report writing
Structure
Essays don't use headings but reports do, however the overall structure is similar.
Using the metaphor of a hamburger each filling represents a point in the essay/report surrounded by the bun of an introduction and finished with a conclusion.

- Read and research the topic
- List the key aspects/points in the topic
- Each point = one (or two) paragraph(s)
- Write the conclusion after writing all the point paragraphs
- Write the introduction last : Explain the aim, context and signpost the points to come

Each paragraph should only cover one sub-topic/point. It is a common mistake to produce a long wordy paragraph with multiple ideas and thoughts. Generally if a paragraph is longer than twelve lines it probably should be rewritten as two separate paragraphs.
